The job
As Optical Designer – Imaging Systems, you design and develop optical elements and subsystems that form a critical part of advanced camera and imaging systems.
You ensure that optical designs meet system-level performance requirements while being robust, manufacturable, and scalable for series production. You collaborate intensively with process engineers, mechanical designers, and production teams to translate optical concepts into reproducible industrial solutions.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Design and optimize optical components and subsystems in line with system-level architecture and performance budgets
- Perform tolerance, stray-light, and sensitivity analyses with explicit focus on manufacturability and production robustness
- Translate optical performance requirements into practical manufacturing, alignment, and calibration constraints
- Participate in system- and design-level reviews
- Interpret measurement and test results from prototyping and production and provide feedback for design or process improvements
- Create and maintain optical design documentation supporting industrialization and volume production
- Align with process engineers to ensure optical designs are compatible with existing and future production processes
- Monitor new optical technologies and assess their applicability within scalable imaging system platforms
We are looking for
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Optics or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in optical design for imaging or sensing systems
- Experience with optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V, LightTools, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of optical principles including imaging optics, diffraction and polarization
- Proven experience designing optical solutions that have successfully transitioned into production
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary, system-driven development teams
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Good command of both Dutch and English
We offer
- A competitive salary depending on experience,
- 25 vacation days and 5 additional leave days (with the option to purchase up to 8 extra days),
- The opportunity to work at a highly innovative company where you learn something new every day,
- An extensive benefits package, including a generous pension plan,
- A ‘Culture Club’ that organizes various activities for the staff.
The role is based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
