Job Description

We are looking for an Automotive Mechanical Product Development Engineer. This role is based in our Abbotsford location and is a fully onsite role.

Requirements

  • Apply accepted engineering principles to develop designs according to specifications and within project constraints.
  • Produce high quality engineering documentation in the form of drawings, reports, and SOPs.
  • Research and evaluate specifications, vendor products, and outside services to establish designs and ensure they meet all requirements.
  • Perform project management duties such as liaising with the sales group to assist in defining the project scope, cost and schedule estimates, and quality requirements.
  • Log costs and monitor project performance against set budgets.
  • Provide engineering support to internal staff and support the production departments with technical challenges.
  • Use advanced tools to reverse engineer and design functional assemblies and components.
  • Design functional parts and assemblies in Solidworks, analyze FMEA in Simulation, and report in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Perform a portion of quality control/assurance on incoming products and finished goods.
  • Spearhead medium-sized projects from multiple disciplines and different departments.
  • Install and test fit prototype or production pieces to ensure compatibility with goals and standards.
  • Ensure that designs are technically and commercially viable and can be reliably manufactured within cost targets.
  • Actively create clear and concise SOPs and instruction manuals to establish standard training and mentoring practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering (or equivalent qualification).
  • A strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine powertrain systems.
  • 5 years' experience and diverse knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Competency in Solidworks modeling and drawing creation.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude, preferably in an automotive background.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills including groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good English communication skills both spoken and written.

Preferred Skills

  • Solidworks simulation.
  • GeoMagic DesignX.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Automotive repair background.
  • A professional engineering designation (e.g., P.Eng.) would be considered an asset.
