Infrastructure Engineer

Job Description

Our organization is partnering with a well-known, regulated enterprise to enhance a complex hybrid environment spanning cloud and on-premises.

This is a hands-on fixed-term contract role focused on optimization, hardening, and creating clear documentation to ensure smooth operations post-handover.

Responsibilities

• Review the current hybrid estate (on-prem & cloud) and map architecture, configurations, dependencies, and SOPs.
• Identify and implement improvements across performance, capacity, security, and cost (targeting 10–20% cloud savings).
• Set alert thresholds and tighten monitoring across the stack.
• Uplift infrastructure to meet evolving business and compliance needs; lead re-platforming to Azure where appropriate.
• Provide L3 support during the engagement, collaborating with internal teams and vendors.
• Enable the team with high-quality runbooks, diagrams, and training.

Success Criteria

• Documentation coverage: high-fidelity runbooks, architecture diagrams, SOPs; alerts configured and actionable.
• Stability & efficiency: fewer incidents and performance alerts; >99.9% availability; measurable cloud cost reduction.
• Security posture: remediated vulnerabilities and controls aligned to ISO 27001/regulated-industry standards.
• Knowledge transfer: clear enablement materials and positive feedback from the IT team.

• Cloud & Virtualisation: Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop, VMware vSphere
• Identity, Security & Compliance: Azure AD, Microsoft CA, Microsoft Purview, Palo Alto, Mimecast
• Networking & Remote: Cisco, Palo Alto, VPN, SD-WAN (SilverPeak)
• Automation & Scripting: PowerShell, Power Automate
• Monitoring, Backup & DR: SolarWinds, Rubrik, Azure Site Recovery, Power BI
• Data & Platforms: Microsoft SQL, Windows Server (AD DS, ADFS, DNS, DHCP, DFS), SCCM/Intune, M365 (Teams, SharePoint)
• Nice to have (industry): Legal-sector platforms such as iManage, Intapp, Elite 3E

Qualifications

• 5+ years delivering and supporting multi-site infrastructure in hybrid environments.
• Deep Azure experience (design/implement/run), plus strong VMware & Hyper-V skills.
• Solid networking fundamentals (routers/switching/Wi-Fi; Cisco preferred).
• Proven track record producing high-quality system documentation and DR/BCP artefacts.
• Comfortable leading infra projects, engaging stakeholders, and working under deadlines.
• Certifications like ITIL/CCNP/VCP/MCITP are welcome.
