HV Engineer

Job Description

We’re looking for an HV Engineer to support the early-stage development of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and renewable energy projects across Australia.

This role sits upstream of construction and delivery - focused on electrical feasibility, HV concept design, and grid connection strategy. You’ll work closely with development teams, project directors, and OEMs to shape projects before major capital is committed.

What you’ll be doing

• Develop HV concepts for utility-scale BESS projects
• Prepare and review single-line diagrams, HV layouts, and protection philosophies
• Support grid connection applications (R0 / R1) with NSPs and AEMO
• Interface with OEMs (BESS, inverters, transformers) on electrical capability and constraints
• Provide technical input into site layouts, easements, and land strategies
• Support capex estimates, technical risk registers, and investment decisions
• Collaborate with internal development, commercial, and grid teams
• Identify and mitigate early electrical and connection risks
• Ensure contractor outputs align with connection agreements, GPS, and NSP requirements
• Act as the client-side HV technical authority, coordinating HV designers, grid consultants, OEMs, EPC contractors, and our China-based engineering teams

What we’re looking for

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Strong experience in HV systems for BESS, renewables, or large infrastructure
• Exposure to grid connection processes in Australia (AEMO + NSPs)
• Comfortable working at concept and feasibility level
• Able to translate technical complexity into clear development advice
• Experience with utilities, developers, OEMs, or EPCs

Desirable

• Previous experience across both development and delivery
• Familiarity with GPS requirements and connection studies
• Exposure to multiple NSPs
• Experience scaling projects from early concept through to FC
