Design Engineer - MEP

Job Purpose

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and coordination of electrical systems in construction and renovation projects. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer, the role involves preparing technical drawings, load calculations, and system layouts while ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards. The Electrical Design Engineer also works closely with MEP teams, architects, and contractors to develop efficient and cost-effective electrical solutions.

Job Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Develop electrical system designs, including Single Line Diagrams (SLD), load schedules, lighting layouts, power distribution, and ELV systems.
• Perform short circuit calculations, voltage drop calculations, and cable sizing to ensure system efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with ADDC, ADM, Civil Defense, and other regulatory authorities in Abu Dhabi.
• Coordinate with mechanical and structural teams to integrate electrical systems seamlessly.
• Manage drafting teams assigned for each project.

Project Coordination & Reporting

• Prepare and submit technical reports, BOQs, and material specifications to the Senior Electrical Engineer for review and approval.
• Conduct design reviews and clash detection to resolve coordination issues before construction.
• Liaise with consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure alignment on technical specifications.

Compliance & Quality Control

• Ensure all designs comply with IEEE, NEC, IEC, and local authority standards.
• Conduct risk assessments and feasibility studies to optimize design solutions.
• Support the Senior Electrical Engineer in ensuring project designs meet energy efficiency and sustainability goals.

Software & Tools

• Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux, ETAP, and other relevant electrical design software.
• Prepare 3D models and simulations for accurate design representation.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Experience: 5-10 years of experience in electrical design engineering, preferably in the MEP or hotel construction sector.

Skills

• Electrical System Design – Expertise in designing power distribution, lighting, ELV, and grounding systems.
• Load Calculations & SLDs – Ability to perform electrical load calculations, short circuit studies, and develop Single Line Diagrams (SLDs).
• Software Proficiency – Experience with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Dialux, ETAP, and electrical design tools.
• MEP Coordination – Collaborating with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection teams for integrated design.
• Compliance & Standards – Knowledge of IEC, NEC, BS, DEWA, ADDC, ADM, and ESTIDAMA requirements.
• Lighting Design & Control – Designing lighting layouts and specifying control systems for energy efficiency.
• Extra Low Voltage (ELV) Systems – Experience in designing BMS, access control, CCTV, fire alarms, and telecom systems.
• Voltage Drop & Short Circuit Analysis – Conducting electrical simulations and analysis for system efficiency.
• Specification & BOQ Preparation – Writing technical specifications and preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
• Sustainability & Energy Efficiency – Implementing energy-saving strategies and green building practices.

Certifications

• ADDC and DEWA approval (preferred only)
