The Opportunity
Our organization is looking to add a Senior Android Application/Middleware Engineer to our rapidly growing Imaging Team within our Device Engineering organization. We are continuously building more and more complex camera systems that utilize advanced camera features provided by the chipset or developed in-house. These developments require the team to have the capability to build proof-of-concept designs and prototypes throughout the stack ranging from the Android application layer to the middleware and down to the driver layer. You will be responsible for strengthening the team's Android application and middleware capabilities in order to faster prototype, build test new features through the stack, as well as debug possible problems at all the layers of the stack.
This position is on-site in Tampere, Finland.
The Skillset
We're looking for people with:
- Bachelors/Master of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years experience
- Extensive Android OS and application development experience (Java/Kotlin/C++)
- Ability to develop by using test-driven development (Android unit test frameworks)
- Ability to develop and interact with cloud applications
- Familiarity with source control solutions such as (git/Github/Gerrit)
- Familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (DevOps)
- Android OS and application testing experience
- Are comfortable working cross-functionally across multiple projects
- Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
- Have humility, curiosity, and a passion for sharing knowledge
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Familiarity with both Android SDKs and NDKs
- Familiarity with Qualcomm/Android platform and the camera stack (Chi, Camx)
- Familiarity with Camera software/hardware image signal processing and algorithms
- Familiarity with Android Camera2 and MediaCodec APIs
90 Days at Our Organization

The First 30 Days
- Learn our products and their application within the lab
- Meet with key stakeholders
- Establish tailored environments and initiate code contributions
- Acquire expertise in camera sensor and flash driver functionalities
- Spearhead the development, testing, and release of initial software features
The First 60 Days
- Implement extensions to the camera stack for our products
- Implement bracketing for different IR wavelengths and use cases
90 Days & Beyond
- After 90 days, you'll be fully proficient and self-assured in your role
- Continue ensuring the excellent quality of the driver-level imaging pipe for different product families by consistently debugging the generic camera stack while integrating new features
