A specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing data centre team based in South Dublin. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with 3–7 years’ building services experience to work on large-scale, mission-critical data centre projects across Ireland and Europe.

The role is based in a brand-new, modern office and offers a hybrid working model, exposure to complex international projects, and clear long-term career progression. Due to continued growth, the company is open to appointing multiple engineers at this level.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer within the Data Centre team, you will be responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical building services systems on high-value, technically complex projects. You will work closely with senior engineers, multidisciplinary design teams, and clients to deliver robust, energy-efficient, and resilient solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical building services systems for data centre projects, including HVAC, cooling systems, pipework, and associated infrastructure.
  • Produce detailed calculations, drawings, and specifications in line with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, BIM, and architectural teams to ensure fully integrated solutions.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and contribute to value engineering where appropriate.
  • Attend design team meetings, client meetings, and technical workshops as required.
  • Support site inspections, commissioning activities, and technical queries during construction phases.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant Irish, European, and international standards.
  • Assist in the mentoring and development of junior engineers as the team grows.
  • Manage assigned project tasks to agreed budgets, timelines, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3–7 years’ experience in mechanical building services design, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • Previous experience working on data centres, mission-critical, industrial, or complex commercial projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, cooling strategies, and energy-efficient design principles.
  • Experience using design tools such as AutoCAD and Revit; knowledge of thermal modelling software is advantageous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills with a professional, client-facing approach.
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and keen to progress technically and professionally.
