Android Engineer

ConvergeSPORTS (USI) | Senior Consultant

About The Role

ConvergeSPORTS is a product-driven business combining our organization's sports industry experience with proprietary data, AI-native decision intelligence, and reusable Converge capabilities. We help sports organizations grow revenue, deepen fan engagement, optimize partnerships, and improve commercial performance while operating with the focus of a product company. Our teams work with leagues, teams, venues, rights holders, media organizations, sponsors, and brands across fan data, digital experiences, and commercial analytics.

This role sits within the Mobile App product team. The ConvergeSPORTS Mobile App is a fan-facing digital product that brings together content, identity, engagement, personalization, notifications, and commercial experiences. The team owns the end-to-end fan journey and works with Architecture, iOS and Android Engineering, Backend Engineering, Data, Design, and Go-to-Market to deliver measurable releases.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You are the person closest to the Android codebase, accountable for the quality, performance, and stability of what fans actually experience on their devices.

Key Responsibilities

Build the Android Experience

  • Design, build, and maintain native Android features for the ConvergeSPORTS Mobile App using Kotlin and modern Android architecture patterns
  • Implement and consume RESTful APIs that power content, identity, personalization, and notification experiences
  • Translate requirements, wireframes, and prototypes from Product and Design into production-ready Android code

Own Quality End to End

  • Write unit and UI tests, participate in code reviews, and hold the line on code quality
  • Optimize app performance, memory usage, and battery efficiency across a wide range of Android devices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, using crash reporting and analytics to find root causes

Ship as One Team

  • Work day to day with iOS and Backend Engineering to keep the fan experience consistent across platforms
  • Manage Play Store release cycles, including versioning, staged rollouts, and crash monitoring
  • Partner with Product and Design through sprint planning, reviews, and the daily calls that keep delivery moving

Work Across the Network

  • Contribute to shared components, libraries, and mobile engineering standards used across the portfolio
  • Mentor engineers around you and raise the standard of Android craft on the team

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience developing native Android applications in Kotlin or Java
  • Experience with modern Android architecture, including MVVM, Jetpack Compose or XML-based UI, and Coroutines or RxJava
  • Experience integrating RESTful APIs into a production mobile application
  • Experience writing unit and UI tests for Android
  • Ability to travel 0-25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries you serve.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred

  • Experience publishing and maintaining apps on the Google Play Store, including staged rollouts and crash monitoring
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile build and release automation
  • Exposure to iOS development or cross-platform frameworks such as Kotlin Multiplatform or Flutter
  • Experience in sports, media, or consumer entertainment mobile products

Core Competencies

  • Builds reliable, maintainable mobile experiences rather than quick fixes
  • Methodical debugger who gets to root cause
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, product-driven environment with shifting priorities
  • Clear communicator with product, design, and non-technical stakeholders
  • Curious about mobile platforms and emerging Android capabilities

Why This Role Matters

Fans judge the product by what happens on their phone. This role owns that surface on Android, from the architecture decisions nobody sees to the frame rate everybody feels. It is where strong mobile engineers do their best hands-on work on a product with real audiences watching.
